Walter Mwasaa is a development professional with 19 years of experience (12 years as Chief of Party (CoP)) guiding the implementation of various development programs.He is the current Chief of Party of Takunda program implemented by CARE Zimbabwe. Walter was the CoP of the flagship program (2016-2020), SHOUHARDO III. SHOUHARDO III, funded by USAID and The Government of Bangladesh, is a Development Food Security Activity in Bangladesh which was successfully implemented achieving results for poor and the extreme poor, youth, and women, along with having significant impacts in WASH and VSLA. Between 2018 and 2020, Walter successfully oversaw a significant redesign and shift from direct delivery to a sustainable service model. Prior to joining in CARE Bangladesh, he worked for Save the Children USA as the CoP in USAID/Food for Peace Transformation to Food Security (T2FS) program between 2011 and 2015. In 2009, he was the Team Leader for CARE’s Livelihood Expansion and Asset Development (LEAD) Multi-Year Assistance Program in Sierra Leone, managing the country office’s food aid programming. From 2007-2009, Walter was the Project Manager for the Rural Food Security Program in Somalia and from 2002-2006, worked as a Senior Program Officer for CARE in Somalia. A skilled communicator, facilitator, and coalition builder, Walter maintains strong relationships with donors and Government counterparts. He has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Master of Arts in Development Studies. His native home is in Kenya.
