Men are perceived as the head of the family in rural Bangladesh, and thus any development work directed to ensure community empowerment becomes less challenging with the support of adult men. To date, more than 30,000 male members from poor and extreme poor communities have been reached through SHOUHARDO III interventions.

Keeping women empowerment at the heart of the program’s design, SHOUHARDO III primarily targets adult females of the poorest households for income-generating and savings related activities. To date, 27,257 women are members of SHOUHARDO’s VSLA groups.

For preventing the younger generation from becoming the next generation of poor, SHOUHARDO III has interventions designed especially for boosting the confidence and skills for employability for adolescents and youths. To date, 9500+ youth have been trained on employable skills.

For ensuring the continuation of the communities’ access to information, market, and resources, SHOUHARDO III works to develop the capacity of the local service providers. To date, SHOUHARDO III has trained thousands of local service providers, including vaccinators, water quality testers, and community-based savings group facilitators(known as Sanchay Sathis).

To ensure smooth service delivery in the communities, especially for the poorest segment, SHOUHARDO III works with the local elected officials and authorities closely. SHOUHARDO III assisted over 600 poor and extreme participants to receive membership at the local Union Parishads through these collaborative approaches.
